Disconnect with Nature

Portrait of a Godess, originally uploaded by jkorpi.

Annah and I recently watched some movies at the Athens’ Film Festival that really opened our eyes and consciousness to everything from the mass consumption of food to the manufactured landscapes that are a result of China’s industrialization and our appetite for cheap goods.
There’s a distance from us and the natural world, and it’s growing more and more as time goes by. When is the last time we grew something we ate? When is the last time we killed the meat in our meal?
For this portrait of Annah I had in mind the concept of a separation between humans and the natural world. Her gesture in this frame seemed as though she was searching for something.
